John Aisenstat (November 19, 1961— January 30, 2018)It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of John Aisenstat, Executive Vice President of Hy’s Canada, on Jan. 30, 2018. John’s warm smile and natural hospitality will truly be missed by family and friends, as well as staff and guests throughout the Hy’s Steakhouse chain.
After a successful career on Parliament Hill, serving in the PMO under Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, he returned to join the Hy’s executive team.
A passionate restaurateur, John shared his family’s love of the hospitality industry. Along with his brother and Hy’s President, Neil Aisenstat and business partner Rob Macdonald, he was an important part of growing and evolving the Hy’s brand.
Hy’s was an intrinsic part of John’s youth, and he loved to welcome friends and guests alike to the restaurant founded by his father Hy Aisenstat in 1955. John was often spotted at Hy’s Steakhouses across the country, always with a welcoming smile.
Throughout his career, John was an advocate and compassionate champion for many charitable organizations in Vancouver and beyond. His gentle demeanor touched the lives of everyone he met.
The funeral for John Aisenstat will take place Friday, February 2, 2pm at Schara Tzedeck cemetery, 2345 Marine Dr., New Westminster
